Across the West Highlands to Eilean Donan

We left the Spean Bridge Hotel before the world was awake and headed out on the Kyle of Lochalsh road. The weather as we looked back to Ben Nevis promised another fine day. The hotel had a bar dedicated to the Commandos and various commando photos were around the rest of the hotel - the nearest hostelry to the Memorial which stands at the junction of the Lochalsh and Gairlochy roads.

We ran alongside Loch Lochy and then stopped at Laggan Locks on the Caledonian Canal for some more photos. The Gorse, lichens and young Larch needles all benefited from the morning sunshine. Grasshopper Warblers could be heard among the many birds singing their little hearts out.

We stopped a few times in Glen Garry alongside the loch to take advantage of the reflections of Ben Tee, Meall Coire nan Saobhaidh and the surrounding mountains.

Then we did the same alongside Loch Cluanie though some of these photos were, as usual, taken from the moving car.

In Glen Shiel we spotted a herd of Red Deer. Sadly the original posed one drinking from thr river moved away but others stayed around for their portraits to be taken at a distance.

Morning coffee break was taken at Eilean Donan Castle where the coffee shop was just opening as we got there at 10.00 am.
